Today is World Post Day.

Today, Thursday, is globe Post Day. People and businesses around the globe, including Pakistan, are celebrating to increase awareness of the Post’s role in their lives and in the growth of the world’s economy and society.

In 1874, the Universal Postal Union was founded in the Swiss capital of Bern. World Post Day is commemorated every year on October 9. The UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969 named it World Post Day. Since then, every year, countries all around the world take part in the celebrations. The Posts in a lot of countries use the event to show off or promote new postal products and services.

In 2015, countries all over the world agreed to work together to reach the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals include ending extreme poverty and hunger, fighting inequality and injustice, and taking action to stop climate change. The Post has a more important role than ever in this worldwide effort because it provides infrastructure for development.

More than a third of individuals are not online, and half of enterprises are not online. Post offices, which are sometimes the only public access point in remote areas, are important gateways to the digital economy.

With the slogan “Post For People: Local Service,” This year’s campaign, “Global Reach,” focuses on the Post as an important public service that is based in communities and run by people. The Post connects individuals and provides doors to the globe, from small villages to big cities.

The goal of World Post Day is to raise awareness of how important the postal sector is to people’s and businesses’ daily lives and how it helps countries grow socially and economically. The commemoration encourages member countries to do program activities that will help the public and media learn more about what their Post does and how it works on a national level.

More than 150 countries commemorate World Post Day in different ways every year. Some countries celebrate World Post Day as a day off from work. A lot of Posts use the occasion to show off or talk about new postal goods and services. Some Posts also use World Post Day to thank their workers for doing a good job.

Philatelic exhibits are held in a lot of countries, and new stamps and date cancellation marks are made. Other things that happen are the display of World Post Day posters at post offices and other public places, open days at post offices, mail centers, and postal museums, as well as conferences, seminars, and workshops, as well as cultural, sports, and other fun activities. A lot of postal services give out special gifts like badges and T-shirts.

On October 9, national champions from nations that are part of the UPU International Letter-Writing Competition are often honored.
