Pakistan will soon reveal its 5G spectrum policy, according to the IT minister.

According to state media on Wednesday, Pakistan will shortly unveil its eagerly anticipated 5G spectrum strategy as part of its efforts to boost connectivity and digital access nationwide.

At the 26th meeting of the South Asia Telecommunication Regulators Council in Islamabad, Minister of Information Technology Shaza Fatima announced that the nation would be auctioning off over 600 MHz of spectrum.

According to Radio Pakistan, she stated that the government would soon reveal the 5G spectrum policy, which would “introduce 5G in addition to improving current 3G and 4G services.”

According to the minister, new satellite communication legislation and a telecom infrastructure-sharing framework have been agreed, opening the door for satellite Internet services in Pakistan.

She stated that the government was working on a “Smartphones for All” program to lower the cost and increase accessibility of mobile devices as part of its commitment to promoting digital inclusion.

Pakistan has achieved 200 million mobile subscribers and 150 million mobile broadband users, according to Fatima, who also noted that data traffic has increased by 70% in the last five years.

She went on to say that revenue growth in the telecom industry was 17% year over year.

According to her, e-commerce has grown to around $7.7 billion and is predicted to surpass $10 billion in the upcoming year.
