The NA speaker and the opposition delegation discuss the appointment of the opposition leader.

Barrister Gohar Ali Khan led a legislative delegation of opposition members who visited Parliament House on Friday to discuss the appointment of the Leader of the Opposition in the House with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

Asad Qaiser, the former Speaker of the National Assembly, and other National Assembly opposition members make up the delegation.

The selection of the Leader of the Opposition in the House was the subject of extensive discussions during the meeting. The delegation asked for the Leader of the Opposition to be nominated.

Ayaz Sadiq, the speaker of the National Assembly, told the group that the case is still pending. The Speaker stressed that Parliament is the most significant and reliable democratic institution, and that all political parties should work to make it stronger. In the parliamentary forum, he called on the opposition to participate actively and constructively.

The Speaker said that in order to address the nation’s political, economic, and public issues, the government and the opposition must proceed in a spirit of cooperation and consultation. In order to support parliamentary traditions, national reconciliation, and the strengthening of the democratic process, he reaffirmed his willingness to act as a liaison between the administration and the opposition.

In order to ensure long-lasting answers to the public’s issues, Ayaz Sadiq expressed hope that all members of parliament will continue to engage in the legislative process in an efficient, constructive, and goal-oriented manner for the benefit of the country.
