ECP holds off on rendering a decision in the Islamabad local government elections issue.

Regarding the numerous postponements of Islamabad’s local government elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) held off on making a decision on Thursday.

The case was heard by a five-member ECP panel led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, and Nazar Muhammad, the Additional Secretary of the Interior, were present before the bench.

The federal government’s decision to expand the number of union councils in the federal capital necessitated the postponement of the polls, Special Secretary ECP informed the bench.

He reported that demarcations had been completed and that the election commission had once again issued the election schedule. “All arrangements have now been finalized,” he continued.

According to the CEC, the ECP will immediately declare the polling date. “Elections will be held in Punjab, but they have already been held in three provinces,” Raja stated, adding that the electoral commission will make the final decision, which would be legally obligatory on everyone.

He claimed that repeatedly delaying the elections was absurd. The CEC stated that he had previously instructed the secretary of the interior to treat the matter seriously and that, thus far, he had exercised restraint by not personally calling any officials.
