Justice Aminuddin Khan was named the Federal Constitutional Court’s first-ever chief.

After discussions between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Justice Aminuddin Khan was formally named the chairman of the Federal Constitutional Court.

He is scheduled to take the oath of office tomorrow (Friday) at 10:00 a.m. in Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The appointment comes after the 27th Amendment to the Constitution was recently approved by Parliament and signed into law by the President. The most senior Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court or the Supreme Court shall hold the post, according to the amendment, which clarified the processes for selecting Pakistan’s Chief Justice.

Justices Athar Minallah and Mansoor Ali Shah leave the Supreme Court

Prior to the constitutional amendments, Justice Aminuddin was scheduled to retire on November 30. However, his appointment as the head of the Constitutional Court has been extended.

Additionally, the amendment permits the President to select judges for the Federal Constitutional Court based on the Prime Minister’s proposal. The Chief Justice’s House will host the oath-taking event, which is anticipated to be attended by Supreme Court judges.
