FIA initiates investigation into the custody death of lawyer Zeeshan Shabbir

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Vehari has mandated the transfer of the inquiry about the homicide of lawyer Zeeshan Shabbir, who reportedly died in police custody, to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Zeeshan Shabbir was allegedly slain in a fabricated police encounter in Vehari. The event attracted the scrutiny of Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah, who opposed the police conducting the probe independently.
Syed Farhad Ali Shah asserted that fatalities happening in police custody are subject to the investigation jurisdiction of the FIA. He mandated that the case of Zeeshan Shabbir be investigated under the Custodial Death and Torture Act.
Subsequent to the issue of the inquiry direction by the Prosecutor General’s office, the DPO Vehari delegated the investigation to the FIA.
Earlier, lawyers throughout Punjab organised a vigorous protest and abstained from court proceedings in reaction to the murder of their colleague.
