Today is International Human Rights Day.

Today (Wednesday) is International Human Rights Day, which is being marked worldwide, including in Pakistan, with the goal of increasing awareness and motivating action to protect human rights everywhere.

Every year on December 10, Human Rights Day is marked to honor the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption and proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on that day in 1948.

The General Assembly declared resolution 423 (V) at its 317th Plenary Meeting on December 4, 1950, formally establishing Human Rights Day. To commemorate the day, member states were invited.

The UDHR, which serves as a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations,” is a cornerstone of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and a worldwide model for national, international, and municipal laws and regulations.

The UDHR is the most translated document in the world, available in 577 languages, including Abkhaz and Zulu.

Human Rights Day 2025’s subject is “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials,” emphasizing how basic rights like equality, dignity, and access to food, water, and safety are a part of everyday life but are sometimes disregarded, inspiring people to reconnect with these ideals for a better future.
