Faculty members are removed from administrative positions in public universities by Sindh HEC orders.

In public sector institutions throughout the province, the Sindh Higher Education Commission has issued stringent orders mandating the immediate dismissal of teaching staff members who now occupy administrative or non-teaching roles.
The Sindh HEC took a strong stand and cited two different court decisions in a formal letter to vice chancellors. The commission has given universities eight days to carry out the directives, but if they don’t, the administrations of each university will have full responsibility for any repercussions.
Currently, there are about 30 public universities in Sindh, and the majority of them employ faculty members in important administrative posts including director of the Quality Enhancement Cell, controller of examinations, registrar, and other budgeted and non-budgeted positions.
Such selections are in violation of court orders and current norms governing university management, according to the Sindh HEC.
However, university authorities have voiced worries about the choice, citing the dire financial situation that the province’s public universities are currently experiencing.
Since faculty members do not earn additional compensation for serving in two capacities, some vice chancellors contend that giving them more administrative duties aids in managing operations without adding college expenses.
Notwithstanding these misgivings, the Sindh HEC has stated unequivocally that adherence to the law is required and that administrative positions must be filled in line with court rulings and established guidelines.
