For further discussions on Ukraine, US and Russian officials gather in Florida.

As President Donald Trump’s administration attempts to persuade both parties to reach an agreement to stop the conflict, US negotiators visited Russian officials in Florida on Saturday for the most recent discussions aimed at ending Russia’s war in Ukraine.

There is some hope that the conflict, which started when Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, will be resolved after the Miami conference, which came after US meetings with Ukrainian and European officials on Friday.

After meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev informed reporters that the discussions were positive and will go on Sunday. The negotiations had ended for the day, according to a White House official.

“The conversations are moving forward in a positive way. They started earlier and are going to keep going today and tomorrow,” Dmitriev stated.

Trump’s senior diplomat and national security advisor, Marco Rubio, has hinted that he may participate in the negotiations.

It is uncertain whether Moscow will accept the security guarantees for Kyiv that US, Ukrainian, and European officials announced earlier this week as part of the war-ending negotiations.

Any meeting between Dmitriev and the Ukrainian negotiators has been ruled off, a Russian source told Reuters.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, stated on Saturday in Kyiv that his country would support a US proposal for three-way negotiations with the US and Russia provided it allowed for more prisoner swaps and cleared the path for national leaders to meet.

“America is now proposing a trilateral meeting with national security advisers — America Ukraine, Russia,” Zelenskiy made known to Kyiv’s local journalists.

PUTIN IS NOT MAKING ANY COMPROMISES.

Contrary to some US officials’ claims that Moscow is prepared for peace, US intelligence reports continue to warn that Putin plans to seize all of Ukraine, according to sources familiar with the intelligence.

During his yearly press conference in Moscow, Putin made no concessions, stating that Russia’s demands for the end of the war had not altered since June 2024, when he called for Ukraine to give up its goal of joining NATO and completely leave four Ukrainian territories that Russia claims as its own.

After almost four years of conflict, Kyiv maintains it will not give up territory that Moscow’s forces have not been able to seize.

According to Rustem Umerov, Ukraine’s chief negotiator, US and European teams met on Friday and decided to continue working together.

After the negotiations in the United States, Umerov said on Telegram, “We agreed with our American partners on further steps and on continuing our joint work in the near future,” and he said he had told Zelenskiy how the talks had gone.

A request for comment was not immediately answered by the White House.

Rubio said reporters on Friday that while talks to end the war have advanced, more work has to be done.

“We’ve spent a lot of time and effort on this and will continue to do so in an effort to see whether there is any overlap here that they can agree upon. That might not be feasible. I’m hoping it is. Before the year ends, I’m hoping it can be finished this month.”
