PML-N wins the PP-289 Dera Ghazi Khan by-election without any opposition.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won the by-election for the Punjab Assembly seat PP-289 Dera Ghazi Khan.
After all the other candidates dropped out of the contest, Osama Abdul Karim of the PML-N was elected to the Provincial Assembly without any opposition.
The Returning Officer said that 11 candidates sent in their nomination papers at first. Nine contestants dropped out the day before, and the 10th contender also turned back his nomination papers on the last day, leaving Osama Abdul Karim with no one to run against.
The seat became open after Mahmood Qadir Leghari, a former MPA, was elected to the National Assembly. According to the Election Commission’s schedule, voting in the constituency was supposed to happen on January 25.
