The IT minister talks about digital changes in 2025.

Shaza Fatima, the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, remarked that the year 2025 was a turning point in Pakistan’s digital journey. This was due to the passage of the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025 and the establishment of new national digital institutions.
In a statement at the end of the year, the minister said that governance reforms were a big success. For example, the e-Office system was used by 38 out of 39 federal divisions, which slashed file processing time from 25 days to four and could save Rs9.5 billion a year.
The minister talked about how well Islamabad’s ParkApp did, with 1.37 million users and Rs22.86 billion in income, and the National Job Portal, which had over 510,000 CVs and advertised more than 33,000 federal jobs.
The “One Patient, One ID” program at PIMS increased the daily OPD capacity by 3,000 patients and cut the time it took to report test results by several hours.
She added that connectivity and infrastructure development were still at the top of the digital agenda. She pointed out that Pakistan has more than 200 million telecom subscribers, 60% of mobile broadband users, and more than 31 million mobile phones were made in Pakistan.
Three new underwater cables came ashore this year, and a fiber-optic backbone from Karachi to China and Central Asia made Pakistan a regional data transit hub. The UN E-Government Development Index also moved the country up 14 places.
The minister noted that policy measures like modifications to right-of-way, finalizing the 5G spectrum, and expanding rural connectivity projects set the stage for the next ten years.
Shaza also said that Pakistan established its first National AI Policy, started a national semiconductor program, trained more than 920,000 people in digital skills, and increased IT exports to $3.8 billion. At the same time, the gender gap in mobile internet access got less.
She said, “2025 was the year of foundations.” She went on to say that 2026 will be about scale and leadership.
