Sohail Mahmood of Pakistan takes over as D-8 secretary general.

Former Pakistani foreign minister Sohail Mahmood has formally taken over as Secretary-General of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation.

The event took place in the D-8 Secretariat Headquarters in Istanbul, where Mahmood succeeded the former Secretary-General, Ambassador Imam.

Mahmood conveyed his gratitude for Ambassador Imam’s leadership and achievements throughout the ceremony. In order to foster more economic cooperation among the eight member nations, he underlined the significance of putting priority projects and strategic ideas into action inside the organisation.

From 2019 to 2022, Sohail Mahmood was Pakistan’s foreign secretary. He brings a variety of diplomatic expertise to his new role.
