Ishaq Dar advocates for moderation during conversation with his Saudi colleague.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, advocated for patience during a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud on Saturday.

The Foreign Office official stated that the two presidents deliberated on recent regional developments.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that all parties in the region should refrain from any escalatory actions and recommended resolving issues via communication and diplomacy to ensure regional peace and stability.

Pakistan previously conveyed its unequivocal support for the diplomatic initiatives spearheaded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aimed at fostering peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen. Pakistan praised the United Arab Emirates for their contributions to these initiatives.

The Foreign Office official stated last week that “Pakistan is closely monitoring the recent developments in Yemen.”

Pakistan emphasised the importance of maintaining Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, expressing hope that Yemeni players would refrain from any unilateral actions that could exacerbate the situation.

On Saturday, Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry urged Yemen’s southern factions to participate in a “dialogue” in Riyadh, following lethal airstrikes and an unexpected declaration of independence.

The Saudi government issued a statement on social media advocating for “a comprehensive conference in Riyadh to convene all southern factions to deliberate on equitable resolutions to the southern issue.” Riyadh announced that the Yemeni government had extended an invitation for negotiations.

For years, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have supported various factions within Yemen’s government-controlled territory, interfering in the protracted civil conflict in the neighbouring country.

The UAE-supported Southern Transitional Council (STC) is currently advocating for independence and the establishment of a secessionist state, which would divide the Arabian Peninsula’s most impoverished nation in two.
