SUI Gas providers instructed to enhance household gas supply

The Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, has directed Sui Gas firms to implement immediate actions to alleviate gas shortages for residential consumers due to increased demand resulting from harsh winter conditions.
Ali Pervaiz Malik presided over a high-level meeting on Thursday with senior officials from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to assess the nation’s gas supply status.
In response to the gas supply issues confronting domestic consumers, Ali Pervaiz Malik has directed officials of the Sui Gas Companies to implement immediate measures to enhance supply to houses, emphasising that consumer relief during the winter season is the government’s foremost priority.
The Minister mandated the submission of weekly reports on gas demand and supply to the Petroleum Division, accompanied by daily operational monitoring. A comprehensive report is submitted daily at 10:00 am to the Petroleum Division, offering complete transparency into the gas supply status over the preceding 24 hours to facilitate timely remedial measures.
In the meeting, the Managing Director of SNGPL informed attendees on the present availability of Sui Gas. He reported that, as of January 6, gas supply had been augmented from 691 MMCFD to 746 MMCFD.
He additionally noted that output from the Shiva gas field has increased from 55 to 65 MMCFD, alleviating strain on the network.
Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik ordered authorities of Sui Gas companies to investigate all potential options to further alleviate gas supply for domestic consumers. He instructed an assessment of the viability of reallocating supplementary sui gas supplies from the industrial sector to the home sector, wherever feasible, during the crucial winter season.
The Managing Director of SSGC reported to the meeting that gas supply has enhanced due to the resumption of shipments from two gas fields. He indicated that an additional 39 MMCFD of petrol has been allocated to domestic users relative to the corresponding period last year.
He stated that discussions were ongoing with industry partners concerning the potential extension of the weekly industrial gas supply cutoff from one day to two days, to prioritise residential requirements.
Ali Pervaiz Malik, the Federal Minister for Petroleum, has affirmed that the government is diligently observing the situation and would persist in implementing decisive, consumer-oriented actions to guarantee stability in petrol supply during the winter season.
