Lahore will be divided into two districts following to Chief Minister Maryam’s approval.

The capital of Punjab is set for a significant administrative restructuring, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has provisionally approved the division of Lahore into two distinct districts.

The initiative seeks to alleviate administrative burdens and improve service provision in the provincial capital.

The resolution, reached during a senior-level conference, stipulates that Lahore’s administrative reorganization shall commence promptly following the Basant festival. Under the new organization, Deputy Commissioners, law enforcement, and municipal systems will function independently in each district, facilitating more efficient governance and enhanced control of public services.

The reorganization will redraw Lahore’s administrative boundaries to enhance the provision of civic services. The two-district approach is anticipated to more efficiently address key concerns such as traffic management, encroachments, and municipal complaints. The Punjab government emphasized that Lahore’s substantial population has warranted this division, facilitating a more prompt response to public complaints.

The chief minister instructed the pertinent departments to finalize preparations for the new administrative structure promptly. A follow-up meeting is set for 9 February to finalize outstanding details. The division of Lahore is characterized as a pivotal advancement in urban administration changes for the province.

Maryam Nawaz asserted that the division of Lahore is imperative for public comfort and enhanced governance. She asserted that service delivery will be expedited and enhanced, while traffic, encroachment, and municipal concerns will be methodically addressed under the new framework. The chief minister emphasized that the initiative is solely administrative, not political, and will enhance the city’s complaint resolution systems.

She additionally remarked that the Lahore division is included in a comprehensive project aimed at implementing contemporary and effective government models for the province’s principal cities. She emphasized that citizen alleviation and transparent governance are the government’s primary concerns.
