On Wednesday, Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain presided over a meeting of the National Wheat Oversight Committee to assess the overall wheat situation in the country.

The discussion addressed the wheat procurement strategy for the 2026 harvest season, the availability of existing wheat reserves, inter-provincial coordination, and market stability.

A press release stated that officials from all provinces and pertinent federal departments attended the conference.

The committee assessed the national wheat supply situation and expressed contentment on the adequacy of stockpiles to fulfill the country’s wheat needs for the current food year.

It was explicitly asserted that there is no deficiency of wheat and that sufficient measures are established to guarantee uninterrupted availability of wheat till the forthcoming harvesting season.

The committee deliberated on provincial procurement strategies and underscored the necessity of safeguarding farmers from exploitation. Provinces informed the gathering about initiatives aimed at guaranteeing equitable economic returns for farmers, especially through efficient oversight and execution at the district level.

The involvement of the private sector in wheat procurement was examined, with guarantees that regulatory measures are being implemented to protect farmers’ interests.
