The UNSC denounces the terrorist incident in Islamabad.

The suicide attack that killed at least 32 people and injured 92 others in a mosque in Islamabad, Pakistan, on February 6, 2026, was strongly denounced by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Friday.

Council President James Kariuki (United Kingdom) issued a press statement in which the members expressed their deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the Government and people of Pakistan, and wished for a full and speedy recovery for the injured. ISIL (Da’esh) has claimed responsibility for the attack, which the members described as a heinous and cowardly act.

Reiterating that terrorism in all of its forms and manifestations is one of the biggest challenges to global peace and security, the Council emphasized the need of holding those responsible for such acts—their organizers, financiers, and sponsors—accountable and bringing them to justice.

In line with their duties under international law and pertinent Security Council resolutions, the statement called on all States to work closely with the Government of Pakistan in order to prevent those who are accountable from avoiding prosecution.

Council members reaffirmed that, regardless of the intent or perpetrator, any act of terrorism is illegal and unjustified. They also emphasized the significance of ongoing international efforts to combat terrorism using all legal means in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
