The KP government bans illicit gold mining along key rivers for 60 days.

Following a resolution by the provincial cabinet, the Home Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has banned illicit gold prospecting and mining along the banks of the Kabul, Swat, and Indus rivers.
An official notification states that the prohibition has been in effect for the first sixty days.
The deputy commissioners in the districts of Swabi, Swat, Nowshera, Kohat, and Karak have been instructed to make sure the decision is implemented right away.
Section 144 prohibits illicit mining along the Indus and Kabul rivers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The statement emphasized how the risks of pollution and soil erosion are rising as a result of unlawful excavation along riverbanks.
Authorities also cautioned that environmental damage brought on by illegal mining operations may endanger public safety and order.
The confiscation of apparatus and equipment used in illicit mining operations has been confirmed by officials.
Violations of Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code will result in legal action.
