Fares for public transportation soar following an increase in fuel prices

Following the rise in petroleum product prices, public transport operators have mirrored the actions of goods carriers by increasing fares, so imposing an additional financial strain on commuters.

Public transport operators have raised tariffs between Rs300 and Rs600 across multiple routes.

The ticket from Lahore to Islamabad has increased from Rs2,600 to Rs3,000, and the fare from Lahore to Peshawar has risen from Rs2,890 to Rs3,500.

The ticket from Lahore to Sargodha has increased from Rs1,300 to Rs1,550, and the fare from Lahore to Faisalabad has risen from Rs1,200 to Rs1,350.

The price for travel from Lahore to Karachi has increased from Rs8,000 to Rs8,600.

The ticket from Lahore to Hyderabad has risen from Rs8,650 to Rs9,200, and the fare from Lahore to Rahim Yar Khan has gone from Rs4,000 to Rs4,250.

Similarly, the ticket from Lahore to Murree has risen from Rs2,790 to Rs3,300.

Freight carriers declare a 20% increase in fares following a rise in fuel prices.

Passengers at the bus terminal reported that the ongoing inflation has rendered public transportation exceedingly challenging.

They stated that participating in family gatherings or traveling for personal reasons has become a significant challenge for the average citizen.

Commuters indicated that an impoverished individual is now compelled to decide between providing two meals daily for his children or allocating funds for transportation.

Transporters contended that the escalation in petroleum costs has correspondingly led to a significant increase in the cost of spare components.

They asserted that without raising fares, they would be compelled to cease operations of their trucks.

Citizens have urged the government to promptly lower petrol prices, cautioning that failure to do so may trigger a fresh wave of inflation in the country.
