Miftah Ismail asserts that individuals are encumbered to advantage oil corporations.

Miftah Ismail, leader of the Awam Pakistan Party and former finance minister, stated on Tuesday that the government’s decision to increase petroleum prices has imposed a burden on the populace and ultimately favoured oil businesses.

He stated that the government imposed the tax on the people to advantage oil firms, noting that this is not the inaugural instance of oil companies receiving such benefits. He also asserted that when prices decline, the government lacks a framework for offering relief to the populace.

The former finance minister asserted that matters are not as straightforward as they seem. The government raised taxes following the Federal Board of Revenue’s failure to achieve its revenue objective.

Miftah Ismail stated that petrol sales approximate 230 million litres weekly, and diesel sales amount to around 150 million litres weekly. He asserted that the government diminished the tax on diesel while augmenting it on petrol.
