NAB’s motion to end the Chaudhry Sugar Mills investigation against Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam is granted by the court.

The National Accountability Bureau’s appeal to end the Chaudhry Sugar Mills investigation against Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been granted by an accountability court in Lahore.
After considering the petition submitted by NAB Lahore to end the investigation, Accountability Court Judge Rana Muhammad Arif made the announcement. In compliance with the new accountability laws, the court determined that NAB had properly concluded the inquiry.
Additionally, the court ruled that Maryam Nawaz might get her Rs. 70 million surety bond back.
NAB prosecutor Intikhab Alam Joiya told the court during the hearing that there was no evidence of corruption, hence the inquiry against Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif had already been terminated.
Maryam Nawaz’s attorney, Javed Arshad Bhatti, made reasons in favor of the plea, but the prosecutor insisted that the investigation could not proceed since there was no proof of corruption and the NAB statute had changed to restrict the bureau’s authority.
In the case, Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif, the proprietors of Chaudhry Sugar Mills, had their assets examined.
Maryam Nawaz had already petitioned the Lahore High Court to have her Rs. 70 million surety returned. The high court ordered NAB to get official approval from the accountability court on February 4 in order to conclude the investigation.
NAB declared that Maryam Nawaz’s surety deposit could now be reimbursed after the accountability court gave its clearance.
