During a call with the PM, the president of the EU Council commends Pakistan’s contribution to peace efforts.

Antonio Costa, the president of the European Council, spoke with the prime minister of Pakistan over the phone on bilateral relations between Pakistan and the EU as well as the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Both leaders voiced serious concerns about the worsening situation involving Iran and Gulf nations, as well as its possible effects on the world economy, according to an official statement. They emphasized how crucial communication and diplomacy are to ending the conflict.

Antonio Costa was updated by the Prime Minister on Pakistan’s continuous diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing recent advancements in measures for mediation.

The president of the European Council expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s positive contribution and reiterated the EU’s support for any diplomatic initiatives aimed at bringing peace and stability back to the area. He wished Pakistan continued success in its peace efforts.

Both sides emphasized the importance of ties between Pakistan and the European Union during the discussion. The prime minister reaffirmed his commitment to deepening relations while noting that his scheduled trip to Brussels last month had been postponed.

Antonio Costa expressed his eagerness to welcome the Prime Minister to Brussels on dates that have been mutually agreed upon.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of the GSP+ status and expressed his eagerness to launch the inaugural Pakistan-EU Business Forum, which is set to take place in Islamabad on April 28–29, 2026.

Additionally, the prime minister sent Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, his best wishes.

Antonio Costa said in a statement that the conversation was productive and reaffirmed worries about the Iran conflict’s wider effects on the world. He emphasized that the only ways to guarantee enduring peace and stability in the Middle East are via communication and diplomacy in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
