Aleema Khan’s CNIC is restored by ATC in a protest case on November 26.

Aleema Khan, the sister of Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had her Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) restored by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing in Rawalpindi regarding Aleema Khan’s protest case from November 26.

Arguments about her exemption from personal appearance were concluded throughout the hearings.

Zahir Ali Shah, the public prosecutor, objected to her persistent absence from court, arguing that since she hadn’t shown up for the previous two months, the case should proceed appropriately.

The defense attorney, however, contended that Aleema Khan’s CNIC had been banned, making it difficult for her to move around and go about her everyday business, and asked the court to order its reinstatement.

Aleema Khan’s request for an exemption from appearing was granted by the court after all parties were heard, and the matter was postponed until April 20.

The judge further ordered the defense to finish cross-examining the final witness and mandated that Aleema Khan and the investigating officer attend the subsequent session.

Aleema Khan’s restricted CNIC was also ordered to be restored by the court.
