In Punjab, government schools must have online attendance.

Punjab has made it necessary for all government schools to have an online attendance system. This means that both students and teachers must indicate their presence online.
The new rule says that anyone who doesn’t use the system to record their attendance will be marked as absent.
Officials have said that schools who don’t consistently update attendance information on the School Information System will be punished. District education CEOs have been told to make sure that all data entry criteria are met.
The education secretary has also said that it is important to keep correct and full data and has voiced concerns about delays in uploading student admissions and attendance records.
The deadline for updating all records is April 20, 2026, according to the authorities. The Punjab Employees Efficiency, Discipline, and Accountability Act may apply to any submissions that are not complete or correct.
Monitoring teams will do surprise checks, and head teachers will be responsible for any problems that are detected.
This change is part of a larger effort to improve digital record management, accountability, and openness in Punjab’s public school system.
