CM Murad allows small farmers to sell an unlimited amount of wheat by lifting the supply cap.

During a meeting, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewed the current wheat procurement campaign for 2026 and waived the five-bag-per-acre cap, allowing small growers registered under the system to supply as much grain as they like.

In order to attain the provincial goal, he gave the food department instructions to expedite procurement, guarantee prompt payments to farmers, and bolster field-level engagement.

The Chief Minister was notified that the wheat procurement campaign, with a target of one million metric tons at a support price of Rs3,500 per 40 kg, started on April 1.

Over 332,000 farmers who grow wheat on over 1.94 million acres throughout the province are covered by the scheme.

The Chief Minister was informed by Minister of Food Makhdoom Mahboob Zaman that, out of the total target of 973,900 metric tons, about 8,958 metric tons of wheat had been purchased thus far. In response to a question, he said that the five bags per acre limit placed on small producers was the main reason the purchase target could not be met.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took note of the problem and promptly removed the five-bag limit per acre, allowing small farmers to sell wheat to the government in unlimited quantity.

The gathering was informed that payments to farmers had been greatly accelerated, with Sindh Bank now transferring money within a single day. Growers have received Rs198.3 million thus far.

“Timely payment is crucial for farmers’ trust,” the Chief Minister stated, expressing satisfaction with the enhanced payment system. We have to make sure that all growers are paid in a timely and open manner.

Murad Ali Shah gave the district administration, agricultural, and food departments instructions to step up the procurement campaign and guarantee that as many farmers as possible participate.

It is necessary to encourage all qualified farmers to deliver their wheat to government procurement centers. This is crucial for both supporting our agriculture and ensuring food security,” he stated.

He emphasized that future subsidies and assistance programs would still be available to farmers who sell wheat to the government.

“The foundation of our economy is our farmers. We’ll keep helping them with reasonable prices, prompt payments, and efficient procurement procedures,” he declared.

Minister of Information Sharjeel Memon, Minister of Food Makhdoom Mahboobuz Zaman, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, PSCM Agha Wasif, Secretary of Agriculture Zaman Narejo, Secretary of Food Abbas Naich, senior officials, and Sindh Bank personnel were present at the meeting.
