Pakistan denounces the drone strike on the nuclear power plant in the United Arab Emirates

The drone strike on the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates on May 17, 2026, was fiercely denounced by Pakistan on Monday.

“Pakistan fully supports the government and fellow citizens of the United Arab Emirates.” The United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law, and the fundamental principles of nuclear safety and security embodied in the Statute and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are all gravely violated by any intentional targeting of nuclear facilities. Under no circumstances should nuclear facilities be targeted. According to a statement from the Foreign Office, such careless acts could have disastrous and irrevocable effects on human life, the environment, and regional and international peace and security.

A well-established international standard that must be respected without exception is the inviolability of civilian nuclear infrastructure.

Pakistan urged all sides to exercise the utmost caution, carry out their responsibilities under international humanitarian law and international law, and refrain from taking any acts that would worsen tensions and have far-reaching effects.

The only practical route to long-term peace, stability, and de-escalation in the area is still dialogue and diplomacy, which are in line with the goals and ideals of the United Nations Charter.
