Pakistan discontinues austerity and fuel conservation measures

A number of restrictions that were put in place as part of energy-saving initiatives have been reinstated by the federal government, which has announced the removal of fuel conservation and other austerity measures.

On March 9, 2026, the Cabinet Division announced the termination of the extra austerity measures.

The announcement states that marketplaces, stores, shopping centers, and bazaars will continue to operate during the same hours. Retail establishments, including department shops and general stores, will continue to close at 9:00 p.m.

Restaurants, cafes, and food outlets will remain open until 11:00 pm, however wedding halls and other event facilities will close at 10:00 pm. These limitations will not apply to takeaway or home delivery services.

Operating-hour restrictions do not apply to medical facilities, hospitals, labs or gas stations.
