Ishaq Dar leaves for New York to attend 81st UN General Assembly session

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar left Islamabad for New York to attend the high-level portion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he will join Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from September 21 to 25.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister will undertake a wide-ranging program of diplomatic engagements throughout the high-level week, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Dar and Prime Minister Shehbaz will attend a meeting of the Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Jammu and Kashmir and will reiterate Pakistan’s support to Kashmiris’ rights.

Dar would also attend a number of OIC ministerial meetings being conducted on the margins of the UN General Assembly including the annual coordination conference of OIC foreign ministers and other meetings of the OIC Contact Group, the Foreign Office said.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister will attend a number of high-level meetings on Palestine to underscore Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian cause, the full statement said.

These engagements include a meeting for the group of eight Arab and Islamic countries and a high-level ministerial conference for the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

Dar will also participate in a high-level briefing of the UN Security Council on artificial intelligence. He will also be part of a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, readiness and response.

The deputy prime minister and foreign minister will also preside over a meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization Council of Ministers.
