Electricity shortfall in Pakistan exceeds 4,000MW

Pakistan’s electricity gap has gone past 4,000 megawatts, causing worries about long periods of power cuts across the country, say officials at the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).
Many power plants have stopped working, and lower production from hydropower has made the problem worse.
People in both cities and villages are now facing power cuts for three to four hours each day, according to the officials.
The problem is especially bad in the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) area, where the electricity shortage has reached over 1,500 megawatts.
LESCO officials said the shortage is because there is less diesel, gas, and hydropower available.
They mentioned that in some parts of the LESCO region, power cuts are happening every hour.
The officials warned that people might face even worse power outages in the days ahead if the situation doesn’t improve.
