The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has endorsed the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) findings published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) in the Household Integrated Economic Survey (HIES) 2024–25, which indicate a significant increase in digital connectivity nationwide.
The poll reveals that over 96% of homes in Pakistan possess mobile or smartphone capabilities, with more than 70% utilizing internet services, a significant increase from 34% in 2019, according to a press statement.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa demonstrates a leading household-level digital access rate of 77%, indicating significant advancement.
This accomplishment is a source of satisfaction for the Government of Pakistan and the regulatory body, underscoring persistent endeavors to enhance access, service availability, and the affordability of devices and internet services for households.
At the individual level (aged 10 and above), mobile and smartphone ownership has risen from 45% in 2019 to 50% in 2025, with 92% of users utilizing mobile phones nationwide.
Individual internet usage has increased significantly from 17% in 2019 to 57% in 2025. It is reassuring to observe that women and men utilize the internet equally generally, with a higher percentage of female users in metropolitan regions (71%) compared to male users (67%).
The poll indicates an increase in digital awareness, enhanced online safety measures, and improved digital competencies. The PTA commends PBS for the publication of HIES 2024–25, especially the ICT indicators that furnish a robust evidence base for informed policymaking and regulatory planning.
