All courts in Punjab will stay operational during the Basant 2026 holidays.

All courts in Punjab will stay operational during Basant, as Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Justice Alia Neelum, has decisively rejected a plea for court breaks on February 6 and 7.

Although the Punjab government has declared a two-day public holiday throughout the province to commemorate Basant, no judicial holidays would be recognized in the Lahore High Court or its subordinate courts. Court proceedings will proceed as scheduled, with hearings occurring on both days.

The Punjab government has announced that February 6 and 7 are designated public holidays for the Basant celebrations. Subsequent to this notification, the Lahore High Court administration sent a report to Chief Justice Alia Neelum, recommending the suspension of court operations for two days in accordance with the provincial holiday calendar.

The chief justice, however, dismissed the request, instructing that all courts within the jurisdiction of the Lahore High Court stay functional. The ruling guarantees the uninterrupted continuation of judicial proceedings during the Basant holidays recognized in other regions of the province.

The Punjab government has announced a two-day public holiday.

Authorities have verified that standard hearings would take place in the Lahore High Court and in district and sessions courts throughout Punjab on February 6 and 7. Judges, court personnel, attorneys, and litigants are mandated to adhere to standard schedules, with no alterations to cause lists or hearing dates.

Chief Justice Alia Neelum affirmed that matters will be adjudicated as scheduled on the designated dates, reiterating the judiciary’s dedication to ensuring continuity in judicial proceedings notwithstanding public holidays instituted by the province administration.

The move arises from intensified administrative preparations for Basant, with courts opting to function autonomously from the provincial holiday announcement to prevent delays in judicial proceedings.
