Basant bustle returns to Lahore as kite sales officially begin

Preparations for Basant have commenced in Lahore, with the formal sale of kites, spools, and kite thread beginning today.
Authorities have let 2,246 vendors to engage in commerce around Lahore. The sale and purchase of kites and associated items is authorized from February 1 to February 8, after which a total prohibition on the production and sale of kites will be enforced.
Reports indicate that 2,504 dealers have submitted online applications to date. Of these, 163 registrations are in progress, whereas 95 applications have been denied. The registration period will close on February 8, with an anticipated increase in trader registrations in the ensuing days.
As sales commenced, a significant number of individuals converged on urban markets to get Basant supplies. Nevertheless, owing to substantial crowds, numerous businesses shuttered their establishments within an hour.
Inhabitants have expressed dissatisfaction with the elevated costs of kite supplies. Current market values indicate that a single tawa gaddi is priced between Rs250 and Rs300, and a one-and-a-half tawa gaddi is valued at Rs450 to Rs500. Currently, a one-piece panna is priced at approximately Rs4,000, whilst a one-and-a-half piece panna has escalated to Rs6,000.
Officials have implored the public to adhere to safety protocols during Basant festivities to prevent mishaps and provide a secure celebratory environment.
