Divorce under Section 7 of Muslim Family Laws, according to SC guidelines, only becomes effective after ninety days.

According to a ruling by the Supreme Court (SC), triple talaq and other divorces granted under Section 7 of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961 do not take effect until after ninety days have passed.
Muhammad Hassan Sultan’s divorce case was decided by a three-judge panel that included Chief Justice Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, and Justice Mian Gul Hasan Aurangzeb. The court ruled that a wife has the full authority to cancel a divorce provided her husband has unequivocally granted her the right to do so.
The Supreme Court upheld the October 7, 2024, ruling of the Sindh High Court (SHC), noting that the pair was married in 2016 and that the husband had unconditionally granted his wife, Moreel Shah, the right to divorce under Clause 18 of the nikahnama.
On July 3, 2023, the wife gave notice under Section 7(1), but on August 10, 2023, she withdrew the proceedings before the 90-day time had passed. The divorce procedure was then stopped by the Union/Arbitration Council chairman.
