Due to a decline in gas consumption, Pakistan chooses to cancel 21 LNG cargoes.

Citing decreased domestic gas demand, Pakistan has opted to cancel 21 LNG shipments that were supposed to come under an import agreement with an Italian energy business.
The agreement between the Italian company and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) permitted one LNG shipment every month, according to Petroleum Division sources. Pakistan has recently decided to substantially cut back on LNG imports between 2026 and 2027, though.
Rather than importing twelve LNG cargoes in 2026, Pakistan will only purchase two, one in January and one in December. Likewise, in 2027, January will only see the purchase of one shipment.
According to the sources, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) made the decision after reevaluating domestic demand and concluding that gas needs could be satisfied without the need for extra imports.
According to officials, the action attempts to balance Pakistan’s energy portfolio while reducing wasteful spending and bringing energy imports into line with real use as the country continues to struggle with foreign exchange pressure.
