Due to protests by religious parties, all main access points into Lahore and Islamabad were closed.

All main entry gates into Lahore and Islamabad have been closed for a second day in a row due to protests by a religious party, which has caused serious problems for the people of both cities.

Containers have been used to block the Saggian Bridge in Lahore, and the route between Ravi Bridge and Shahdara has also been sealed. Additionally, the historic Ravi Bridge route leading to Lahore has been closed. There are a lot of containers scattered throughout the Lahore Press Club and the surrounding regions, which makes it very difficult for people to move around trying to do necessary duties.

All forms of traffic are still prohibited from using the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway in either direction. Additionally, Babu Sabu and Thokar Niaz Baig access to the motorway has been restricted.

All motorway entry points are closed in Islamabad, and the Orange Line rail service in Lahore is still suspended for the second day.

The route near the Chenab Toll Plaza is completely blocked with containers, and the Maulana Zafar Ali Khan bypass adjacent to Wazirabad has been barred on the GT route. Similar barricades have been erected on all roads going to Sialkot Airport and at the Khanqah Barrage Toll Plaza.

Heavy trucks and containers are being used to fully stop traffic between Lahore and Islamabad in Gujrat, where a trench has been dug close to the Chenab River Bridge. Additionally, trenches have been built at Sarai Alamgir and Kharian on GT Road. The border checkpoint at Jandial Barrier in Khanpur Hazara is still closed for the second day.

Trailers and containers have blocked the GT Road, which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. The M4 Motorway toward Lahore is stopped to traffic, and all roads leading from Toba Tek Singh to Lahore have been barricaded. The public is being urged to take alternate routes.

Meanwhile, the previous day saw the urgent closure of all educational institutions in Lahore. The road closures were denounced in a statement by the Islamabad High Court Bar Association. Both Punjab University’s law exams and the Public Service Commission’s SDO/PERA exams have been postponed.

Punjab is still subject to Section 144, and internet and mobile services are still blocked in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
