Trump praises Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz for revising the Pakistan-India war jet losses to 11.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington.

During the inaugural session at the United States Institute of Peace, Trump characterized Munir as a “tough, good fighter” and expressed his admiration for the Pakistani minister by stating, “I like this man of Pakistan.”

The summit, aimed at concluding the battle in Gaza and managing post-war reconstruction, assembled delegates from over 45 nations, including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Azerbaijan.

Conflict between Pakistan and India

In his address, Trump characterized last year’s military standoff between Pakistan and India as a swiftly intensifying crisis between two nuclear-armed neighbors. He stated that he became familiar with Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir at a period of ongoing conflict.

The battle was initiated by a lethal assault on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 individuals. New Delhi accused Pakistan of complicity, a claim Islamabad refuted, proposing instead to engage in an impartial investigation.

The military standoff represented the most significant escalation between the two nations in decades. Pakistani officials report that seven Indian fighter jets, comprising three Rafale aircraft, along with several drones, were downed during the confrontations. Hostilities persisted for a minimum of 87 hours prior to the announcement of a truce on May 10, facilitated by the United States.

Trump reaffirmed his assertion that Washington significantly contributed to the cessation of the hostilities. He stated that he cautioned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that substantial tariffs, including a suggested 200 percent levy, would be enacted if the hostilities did not cease.
