Imran Khan goes to Shifa International for specialized eye care at the Islamabad High Court.

A petition requesting the immediate transfer of imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for specialized eye care was presented to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday.

According to the criminal miscellaneous application submitted by senior counsel Sardar Latif Khosa, Khan’s family, personal doctors, and legal team were not informed of the secret medical examinations that prison officials were performing.

After Khan had a follow-up consultation for his eye ailment, which was arranged by the government, a similar request was previously filed before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on February 25.

The petition claims that the 73-year-old former prime minister, who has been detained at Adiala Jail since August 2023, only has about 15% eyesight in one eye and has lost all vision in the other.

According to a report filed with the top court by amicus curiae Barrister Salman Safdar, jail officials allegedly neglected to provide prompt and sufficient medical assistance in spite of several complaints of blurred and dangerous vision.

A medical examination that was allegedly performed on February 15 inside Central Jail in Rawalpindi without prior knowledge to Khan’s family, personal physicians, or legal counsel is the subject of the plea. He was thereafter sent to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on February 23 for further treatments, it adds, once more denying him access to his family members or personal doctors, Drs. Faisal Sultan and Asim Yousaf.

The Supreme Court had already delayed similar petitions sine die in an order dated February 12, 2026, directing that any grievances be brought before the high court where Khan’s appeal against his conviction in the trial court is still underway.
