In October, Pakistan paid multinational corporations $385.6 million in profit repatriation: SBP

According to new data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the amount of profit that multinational corporations (MNCs) shipped out of the nation in October 2025 increased significantly month over month.
The SBP data states that in October, Pakistan paid $385.6 million in profit repatriation to multinational corporations. Despite this significant outflow, MNCs’ yearly foreign exchange profit repatriation fell by 6.8% from the previous year.
Profit outflows, however, increased by 142.6 percent on a month-to-month basis, suggesting that a number of businesses have at last “cleared the backlog” following months of delays. The number “jumped overnight,” according to officials, as businesses awaited better foreign exchange availability.
The first four months of FY2026 saw $1.137 billion in profits repatriated by foreign corporations. In contrast, MNCs sent out $818.4 million over the same time frame in FY2025, indicating a noticeable increase as the government works to “get the ball rolling” on loosening foreign exchange regulations.
Additionally, the research noted that foreign companies operating in the electricity industry experienced a significant increase in their yearly profit outflows, moving $155.6 million overseas, a startling increase of 103 percent.
According to economists, the increase is a result of better currency liquidity, which enabled companies to “cash out” dividends that had been outstanding for a long time.
