The proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, according to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan, is nothing to be surprised or alarmed about. Instead, it emphasizes the necessity of strengthening and clarifying local government regulations.

The 27th Amendment is aimed at encouraging good governance and improved coordination across institutions, MQM Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Dr. Farooq Sattar told the media while accompanied by top leaders.

The people must benefit from democracy, Siddiqui said, adding that MQM had already spoken with the prime minister over the amendment issue.

He emphasized that local governments had to be regarded as valid constitutional bodies that are subject to Supreme Court supervision and constitutional protection. He asserted that the solution to societal issues lay in empowering local authorities.
