In the Istanbul talks, Pakistan adopts a strong stance against terrorism from Afghan territory.

During high-level negotiations in Istanbul, Pakistan reaffirmed its stance that it will not accept any terrorism that comes from Afghanistan.

The third round of principal-level discussions between Islamabad and the Afghan Taliban government is being co-hosted by Qatar and Turkey. The goal of the meetings is to strengthen the tenuous truce that was established after last month’s deadly cross-border battles.

Under no circumstances will the Pakistani delegation tolerate the use of Afghan territory for terrorist activities.

According to sources, the major goal of the two-day negotiations is to complete a system of monitoring and verification to guarantee that the peace is upheld and that infractions are dealt with.

Dismantling militant sanctuaries and turning over important leadership functioning from inside Afghanistan are only two of the tangible, verifiable measures Pakistan is demanding against the TTP. Deeply ingrained mistrust has been highlighted by Islamabad’s proposal to include impartial third-party observers to supervise the application of any agreed framework.

Senior Afghan officials include Intelligence Chief Abdul Haq Wasiq, Deputy Interior Minister Rahmatullah Najib, Taliban delegates Suhail Shahin and Ins Haqqani from Doha, and other government representatives are part of the Afghan delegation.

Although there are still structural disagreements, Afghan sources said the first session’s atmosphere was “good.” Pakistan wants an end to cross-border attacks, while the Taliban maintain that they do not hide militants and place a strong emphasis on respecting Afghan sovereignty.

This round’s outcome is viewed as a crucial test for both neighbors, assessing their ability to move past recurrent disputes and establish a solid working partnership. Although the two-day meetings are planned, they may be prolonged if a breakthrough seems likely.
