Investigation reveals that Bhaati police personnel are culpable for abusing the husband of a woman who drowned.

An inquiry ordered by the Chief Minister of Punjab into the alleged police assault on Ghulam Murtaza, following the death of a woman in Lahore’s Bhaati area, has been concluded by the Internal Accountability Branch.

The inquiry was carried out by Additional IG Imran Mehmood, DIG Nasir Aziz Virk, and DIG Imran Kishwar. The investigation determined that SP City Bilal and SHO Bhaati Zain were culpable of misbehavior.

The complaint states that both officers transported Ghulam Murtaza to Bhaati Police Station without interrogating any accompanying family. The girl’s father was promptly notified, and a relative named Tanveer was also apprehended at the station.

Ghulam Murtaza was reportedly attacked in the SHO’s office, as corroborated by CCTV footage from the room. He was subjected to unlawful confinement for approximately five hours. During the investigation in Shorkot, he asserted that the police coerced him into admitting culpability for the deaths of his wife and daughter.

Conversely, the SP and SHO asserted that relatively minimal physical force was employed. Police officials asserted that, according to evidence from rescue teams and other agencies, it was deemed implausible that the woman drowned, prompting the detention of Ghulam Murtaza for interrogation.
