Following early elections, Masoud Pezeshkian was formally endorsed by Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, to become the country’s ninth president. On Tuesday, in front of parliament, the next president will take the oath of office.
Khamenei gave the president-elect a document at the ceremony that officially recognized him as the rightful leader of the country, known as the “decree of confirmation” or “decree of validation.”
The word “approved” was indeed used by the official government news outlet, IRNA, to describe Khamenei’s support for Pezeshkian, who is officially recognized as the president as of today, July 28. As such, the second inauguration held in the legislature over the course of two days is, in fact, a formal swearing-in event.
Tuesday is Tahlif, when Pezeshkian will be sworn in before the parliament and will come after the Tanfiz ritual. The newly elected president swears to respect the constitution and faithfully carry out his duties as the head of state before the Parliament (Majlis) during Tahlif, with the members of the Guardian Council and the head of the judiciary in attendance.
According to IRNA, over 2,500 people are anticipated, including heads of state and military agencies, intellectual and religious leaders, representatives from businesses and organizations, bereaved families, and foreign ambassadors based in Tehran.
As per the official media, the swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by seventy foreign delegations from various countries and international organizations.
