LHC challenges the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026

The constitutionality of permitting kite flying under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 has been contested in the Lahore High Court.
Since a citizen filed the petition, the Chief Secretary of Punjab, the federal government, and other pertinent authorities are respondents in this matter.
The petition contended that the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 violates fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and is unconstitutional. According to the petitioner, the state is in charge of protecting citizens’ rights to live in freedom and security as well as their safety and protection.
The petitioner argued that because kite flying constitutes a threat to public safety, the government has previously enforced stringent prohibitions and harsh penalties. The petition contended that permitting kite flying once more is a dangerous move that can endanger individuals’ lives, especially because metallic and sharp kite strings are used.
In addition, the plea asked the court to halt the Deputy Commissioner’s notification allowing kite flying until the petition’s outcome was decided. Additionally, the petitioner requested that the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2026 be declared invalid by the court.
The petition is anticipated to be heard by the LHC in the upcoming days.
