Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has mandated increased surveillance and the ongoing execution of combing operations throughout the state due to existing security apprehensions.
She presided over a high-level meeting regarding law and order, during which officials informed attendees about the general security situation.
Sources indicate that stringent surveillance was implemented for persons categorized under the Fourth Schedule, along with other active entities.
In light of the Israel-Iran war, the chief minister directed officials to enhance monitoring and elevate the province’s alert status.
She mandated the enhancement of security measures at retail malls, prominent marketplaces, and many public venues.
Law enforcement and district administrations throughout all jurisdictions have been instructed to maintain vigilance, with rigorous surveillance of questionable individuals.
It was also determined to enhance the efficacy of inspections at entry and departure points.
Maryam Nawaz mandated the augmentation of staff at critical business hubs and instructed that search and combing activities in sensitive regions be enhanced.
She underscored the necessity of a fast response to any adverse situation and asserted that no individual would be permitted to take the law into their own hands.
During the briefing, officials conveyed that security dangers remain, necessitating the high alert posture.
Section 144 has been enacted throughout the province until March 7 due to anticipated terrorism threats and hazards to public order.
The meeting also evaluated measures concerning the repatriation of unlawfully dwelling foreign nationals, protest demonstrations, and further security-related actions.
The Home Secretary announced that a total prohibition has been instituted on public assemblies of four or more individuals and the exhibition of weapons throughout Punjab.
To date, 32,729 undocumented foreign inhabitants, including Afghan nationals, have been expelled from the province.
At now, 346 persons are located at holding points. Among the deported individuals are 12,356 males, 6,673 women, and 13,700 children.
Officials further stated that the province remains on high alert, with full monitoring of all key spots, direct surveillance of red zones and sensitive installations, and legal action being taken against individuals sharing content against national security on social media.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman, Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi, Additional IG of the Special Branch, CTD personnel, and other pertinent authorities.
