Meta has acquired the AI-wearables startup Limitless.

Meta (META.O) has purchased the AI-wearables startup Limitless, known for its pendant-style gadget that captures and transcribes real-world conversations, as the social media conglomerate intensifies its commitment to developing AI-integrated consumer devices. Meta has just unveiled a new vision to provide personal superintelligence to all, with a significant component of this vision being the development of advanced AI-enabled wearables. “We align with this vision and will collaborate with Meta to actualize our mutual objectives,” stated Limitless co-founder and CEO Dan Siroker in a blog post on Friday. Limitless did not reveal the financial specifics of the agreement. This week, Meta appointed Alan Dye, a veteran design executive from Apple (AAPL.O), a decision perceived as intensifying its emphasis on next-generation products. Meta intends to leverage Limitless’ technical expertise in the advancement of next-generation AI-enabled wearables. Meta has established collaborations with EssilorLuxottica (ESLX.PA) brands Ray-Ban and Oakley to develop AI-enhanced smart spectacles. A Meta spokeswoman said Reuters, “We are enthusiastic about Limitless joining Meta to expedite our efforts in developing AI-enabled wearables.” Limitless, previously referred to as Rewind, produces a wearable “pendant” that attaches to garments or a lanyard. The device captures conversations, generates transcripts, and produces searchable summaries via a companion application. It belongs to an expanding category of AI assistants intended to enhance memory and daily productivity. Limitless announced that while it will continue to service current users, it will cease the sale of devices to new clients. Current users will be required to consent to updated privacy terms to continue utilizing the service. Limitless has secured over $33 million in funding from investors such as Sam Altman and A16z.
