Muharram: Karachi is under threat
The anti-encroachment police officers have been advised not to walk alone while on official duty during Muharramul Haram in light of the previous incidents, per directives released by DSP Tariq Islam.
Authorities in Karachi can be targeted during Muharram, according to the advisory. Official tasks required the officials to travel in police vans, and they were instructed not to wear shoes or uniforms when they left work to go home.
To maintain security throughout the month of Muharram, the federal cabinet authorized on Monday the nationwide deployment of the armed forces.
The decision to send military forces to maintain peace and order was made in response to requests from the authorities in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Center authorized the “deployment of army troops/assets and civil armed forces troops/assets” in order to maintain peace, as stated in Article 245 of the Constitution.
As made clear by the Ministry of Interior, the provinces will have the power to choose the places for army deployment, which will depend on the conditions on the ground.
