Murder of Nazim Jokhio: SHC hears Jam Awais’s appeal for disqualification
According to the response from the election commission, Jam Awais was a member of the former provincial assembly, whose term is now over.
“The electoral body declared that it would adhere to and carry out any court order.”
The court was asked for an extension by the Sindh government to submit its response.
At the following case hearing, the high court requested to hear final arguments about the petition.
“The attorneys for both parties prepare for the upcoming hearing; the court will hear the matter and make a decision in accordance with the law,” Chief Justice SHC Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui declared.
“The accused has murdered Nazim Jokhio and given the family of the deceased in the murder case Diyet (blood money),” stated Ali Tahir, the petitioner’s attorney. “Accused has committed murder if Diyet is paid,” the attorney contended.
Jam Awais should be permanently barred from holding public office, the petitioner’s attorney said.
In an attempt to prevent his foreign guests from engaging in illicit hunting of the endangered houbara bustard in Karachi’s Memon Goth neighborhood, former PPP MPA Jam Awais Gohram Jokhio and his crew were charged in October 2021 with torturing activist Nazim Jokhio to death.
Jam Awais and other suspects in the well-known murder case were granted a pardon by the family of the late Nazim Jokhio, according to an affidavit submitted to the court.
Nazim Jokhio’s widow, Shireen Jokhio’s affidavit stated, “We have reached a compromise with the accused; the court may acquit them.”
