Pakistan and Tajikistan intend to deepen their bilateral relations.

The agreement on this matter was reached during a meeting between Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today in Dushanbe.

Regarding bilateral relations, the two leaders spoke on every aspect of bilateral cooperation, such as investment, commerce and economy, connectivity, research and technology, education, culture, defense, humanitarian aid, and parliamentary and people-to-people interactions.

The signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two leaders elevates Pakistan and Tajikistan’s bilateral relations to the status of a long-term strategic partnership. The two leaders emphasized that improvement in bilateral relations would lead to new avenues for further cooperative efforts.

A number of Agreements/MoUs in the areas of aviation, diplomacy, education, sports, people-to-people links, industrial cooperation, and tourism were signed by the two parties in an effort to further strengthen and broaden their bilateral relations.

Along with discussing the worsening state of human rights in Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the premier also informed the President of Tajikistan about the Indian government’s efforts to alter the region’s demographic makeup.

Both leaders also conveyed their grave concerns about the current state of affairs in Gaza, where thousands of innocent Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed as a result of Israeli aggression. The two leaders pushed for further efforts by the international community to put an end to the fighting and establish peace in the area.

The President of Tajikistan has invited Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, to come on a two-day formal visit. A major step toward taking the long-standing and complex relationship between the two fraternal countries to the next level, the prime minister’s visit has confirmed the continuance of frequent bilateral interactions at the highest level.

The prime minister was greeted warmly by Qohir Rasulzoda, the prime minister of Tajikistan, upon his arrival at Dushanbe International Airport. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif placed a flower wreath at the Ismoili Somoni Statue, Tajikistan’s national landmark, as a show of respect and unity.
