Police in Lahore deny torturing Sumera Komal, a former MPA.

On Saturday, Punjab police refuted claims that they had tortured Sumera Komal, a former PML-N MPA, at a nearby police station.

Sumera Komal claimed that when her son was outside their home, police had taken him into custody without filing any charges.

She said she and her husband were physically assaulted by police officials when they went to the police station to have him released. Later, a video of the altercation became viral on social media.

Additionally, Komal connected the occurrence to a prior case involving her second son, who passed away in a motorcycle accident last month.

Police, however, have refuted every accusation. Officials allege that a 48-hour investigation that was ordered by the DIG (Operations) concluded that the allegations were unfounded.

According to the police, Komal’s son Arsalan and twelve other people were taken into custody two days prior after a raid at a snooker club where gambling was reportedly occurring.

The club and the detained individuals, according to the police, were already involved in a prior gambling case.

They also stated that Komal’s attempt to put pressure on law enforcement by connecting her son’s arrest to the previous case was “unfounded.”

While trying to get their son released, the former MPA and her husband “misbehaved with police personnel,” according to a police spokesperson.

Citing the Punjab Chief Minister’s orders, the spokesperson went on to say, “The law is equal for everyone.”
