Pope Leo calls for a ceasefire and denounces the “atrocious violence” in the Iran War.

Pope Leo bemoaned “atrocious violence” that he said had killed hundreds of civilians and caused misery throughout the region in his passionate appeal for an immediate truce in the escalating Iran war on Sunday.

The first US pope cautioned that violence would not provide the justice, stability, and peace that the peoples of the area seek for as the US-Israeli war on Iran enters its third week.During his weekly Angelus prayer in St. Peter’s Square, the pope declared, “The people of the Middle East have been suffering the atrocious violence of war for two weeks.”Pope Leo declared, “I call on those responsible for this conflict to cease fire in the name of Christians in the Middle East and of all women and men of good will.”

The notion that war resolves issues is “absurd.”

Leo went on to say that there was “great concern” about the situation in Lebanon, which was devastated by a conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Lebanese organization Hezbollah. For the benefit of all Lebanese citizens, I wish for channels of communication that can assist the nation’s authorities in putting long-term solutions to the grave issue at hand into place,” the pope stated.

Later, while visiting a congregation in Rome, the pope criticized those who use God as an excuse for murder and declared that violence could never solve issues. In his homily, he stated, “Many of our brothers and sisters around the world are suffering today due to violent conflicts, caused by the ridiculous claim that problems and disagreements can be resolved through war, when instead we must engage in unceasing dialogue for peace.”Some even go so far as to use God’s name to defend these death-related decisions, yet darkness cannot summon God. Instead, He always comes to provide humanity peace, hope, and light.
